Three Games in Atlantic City Put the Philadelphia Giants’ Claim to the Test
By the time the Philadelphia Giants and Cuban X-Giants reached Atlantic City in September 1904, each had a reason to believe a championship belonged to it. The X-Giants had beaten Philadelphia in a seven-game series the year before and advertised themselves as the “Colored Base Ball Champions of the World.” Philadelphia had remade its club with players from that very opponent.
